Plougrescant et le site du Gouffre
The Gouffre de Plougrescant site is a protected natural site. Including areas owned by the Conservatoire du littoral as well as fragile natural areas.
There are remarkable species there. In particular, among others: nesting species as well as sea cabbage.
You can read there:
« Le Gouffre is a big fault between two rocks. The rock was formed millions of years ago following intense magmatic activity, then it was long sculpted by erosion. If its appearance can be perplexing on sunny days, its name takes on its full meaning during storms when the water is unleashed and the noise becomes almost frightening »
Le Sillon de Talbert
Le Sillon is a unique geological curiosity in Europe.
It is a spit composed of sedimentary accumulation (sand, gravel, pebbles). Like a long snake it stretches 3km into the sea.
Stamped “Regional Nature Reserve”, it has been protected since 2006.
Here is one of the legends about its formation:
» La fée Morgane vivait sur l’île de Talbert. Tombant amoureuse du roi Arthur, elle voulut le rejoindre. Elle jeta alors des cailloux vers le littoral, qui se multiplièrent en millions de galets. »
